Cambodia, Thailand Leaders Greet at ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul briefly exchanged greetings and engaged in an informal conversation before the ASEAN Future Forum commenced in Hanoi, Vietnam. This interaction took place right before the opening of the two-day event, allowing the two leaders a chance for informal engagement. Photographs captured at the venue depicted the leaders shaking hands outside the main forum area.

Observers in Cambodia interpreted this exchange as an indication that diplomatic communications between Cambodia and Thailand are ongoing, even though there are still unresolved border issues between the two nations. However, Thai officials clarified that the interaction was not a formal bilateral meeting but rather a routine conversation that occurred while both leaders were awaiting the start of the forum.

The ASEAN Future Forum, now in its third iteration, brought together regional leaders to focus on development priorities and to enhance cooperation across Southeast Asia. The forum included discussions led by Vietnamese leaders who highlighted the necessity of adapting to global shifts and the importance of implementing long-term growth strategies for the region.

Furthermore, Vietnamese officials urged ASEAN member nations to look beyond their immediate political interests and to foster innovation. They emphasized placing younger generations at the heart of future development plans, arguing that increased regional cooperation could help ASEAN navigate global challenges and unlock new growth opportunities.
