Cambodia Advances Transport Reforms to Boost Global Trade Competitiveness

Cambodia is intensifying its efforts to modernize transport and logistics infrastructure with the aim of boosting trade competitiveness and enhancing connectivity in regional and global supply chains. The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, is focusing on improving supply chains, trade routes, and transportation systems to facilitate smoother transit and reduce costs.

At a recent Council of Ministers meeting, officials reviewed the progress of existing initiatives and discussed plans to strengthen links between domestic markets and international trade corridors. These efforts are part of the Comprehensive Master Plan on the Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023–2033, which outlines a strategic framework for the development of roads, railways, waterways, ports, aviation, logistics, and intermodal transport through 174 identified projects.

The Cambodian government aims to leverage enhanced transport infrastructure to support sectors such as manufacturing and agro-processing, as well as to attract foreign investment. By doing so, Cambodia hopes to reinforce its role in both regional and global trade networks, thereby facilitating higher-value industries within the country.

This strategic overhaul is seen as a critical step towards positioning Cambodia as a competitive player in international trade, which can potentially lead to economic growth and diversified economic opportunities.
