In a bid to bolster collaboration with northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently led a delegation to the provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to enhance cooperation between Vietnamese localities and these Cambodian regions while also assessing the involvement of Vietnamese businesses and the conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community residing there.
During discussions with provincial leaders, the focus was on expanding cooperation in various sectors, including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials acknowledged the strengthening ties with Vietnamese provinces, highlighting cooperation agreements, business interactions, and development initiatives as key factors in this growing relationship. Kratie province, in particular, commended the progress made in diplomatic and socio-economic cooperation with Vietnam, citing support for infrastructure development and collaborative efforts in repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during the Cambodian conflict.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ expressed appreciation for the contributions of Vietnamese companies involved in agriculture, mining, and rubber production in Cambodia. He noted that these projects have significantly contributed to local economic growth and have reinforced bilateral ties between the two nations. In Stung Treng, local authorities emphasized the province’s potential for investment in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging more Vietnamese businesses to explore opportunities in these areas.
Additionally, the ambassador held discussions with representatives of the Vietnamese-origin community, addressing legal and livelihood challenges while encouraging adherence to local laws. He also emphasized the importance of supporting education and sustainable development within the community. Vietnam’s robust investment presence in Cambodia is underscored by over 200 projects with a total registered capital of around $3 billion, positioning it as one of Cambodia’s leading foreign investors.
