Malaysia Aims to Secure 33 Medals at 2026 Asian Games

Malaysia is setting its sights on securing a total of 33 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4. The medal target comprises six gold, seven silver, and 20 bronze medals. According to Chef de Mission Mohd Sumali Reduan, this goal is deemed achievable by considering the current form and recent performances of the athletes, along with their medal potential and the level of competition from across Asia.

The Malaysian team has identified 13 sports with significant medal prospects, including track cycling, badminton, archery, diving, squash, sepak takraw, hockey, athletics, sailing, karate, wushu, esports, and shooting. The contingent will be composed of 352 athletes and 185 officials, who will compete in 30 out of the 43 sports featured at the Games. Collectively, they will participate in 156 of the 469 events on offer.

Among the athletes, wushu competitor Tan Cheong Min has been chosen as the flag-bearer for Malaysia at the Asian Games. Additionally, track cycling star Azizulhasni Awang is expected to play a key role in bolstering Malaysia’s medal tally.

Alongside the main event, Malaysia is also focused on the Asian Para Games, where the team aims to win six gold, 10 silver, and 18 bronze medals. The Para Games are slated to occur from October 18 to 24, further enhancing Malaysia’s international sporting commitments during this period.
