Floods Force Evacuations and Damage Homes in 10 Cambodian Provinces

Severe flooding in Cambodia has displaced thousands of residents and affected tens of thousands of families across 10 provinces. Triggered by relentless heavy rainfall, the floods have forced about 3,700 households to evacuate to safer locations as authorities grapple with the aftermath.

Reports indicate that over 40,000 homes have been swamped, and nearly 50,000 hectares of rice fields have been inundated, with significant damage recorded in the provinces of Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Siem Reap, which are among the hardest hit. The adverse weather, characterized by continuous rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, began on September 24 and is expected to persist until at least September 30.

Authorities attribute the extensive flooding primarily to the persistent heavy rainfall experienced over the past several days. The impact on agriculture, particularly the rice fields, poses a substantial risk to the local economy and food security, prompting urgent relief and mitigation efforts.

As the situation develops, local and national agencies continue to monitor weather patterns and provide support to affected communities. Efforts are underway to ensure the safety of displaced families and to address the widespread damage caused by the floods.
