Indonesia Divides Fiscal Duties Among Three Deputy Finance Ministers

Indonesia’s Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara has delineated the distinct responsibilities of three deputy finance ministers, aiming to enhance coordination and focus in the management of the country’s fiscal policies and state budget. This strategic division of roles is part of an effort to improve the effectiveness of Indonesia’s fiscal administration as the nation continues to navigate complex revenue collection and public expenditure challenges.

Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung will oversee the financial sector, international affairs, and financing. Meanwhile, Nurkholisoh Ibnu Aman has been tasked with managing state revenue, which includes oversight of taxes, customs and excise duties, as well as non-tax revenue. Luky Alfirman will handle state expenditure, treasury operations, and transfers to regional governments.

Despite these distinct roles, Nazara stressed that the three deputies, alongside himself, will maintain collective oversight of the ministry’s overall operations, including organizational matters, human resources, and budgetary management. This collaborative approach is intended to ensure that all areas of fiscal management are effectively coordinated.

These appointments were formalized under Presidential Decree No. 104P of 2026, which saw Alfirman and Nurkholisoh joining Agung to support the finance minister. Alfirman brings extensive experience from within the Finance Ministry, while Nurkholisoh has a background as an economist and researcher at Bank Indonesia.

Nazara also reported significant progress in revenue collection, with Indonesia’s state revenue reaching approximately 2,341.5 trillion rupiah by the end of September 2026. This marks a 25.5% increase compared to the same period last year and accounts for 74.2% of the government’s revenue target for the year.

The reassignment of responsibilities among the deputies is seen as a crucial step in fortifying fiscal administration, thereby allowing Indonesia to more effectively manage its revenue, public spending, and regional funding.
