During a significant diplomatic meeting in Cebu, Philippines, Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul engaged in discussions with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The talks, which took place at the Shangri-La Mactan hotel, were centered on addressing the ongoing situation between Thailand and Cambodia. This meeting was orchestrated by the Philippines as part of its duties as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as stated by Rachada Dhanadirek, the spokesperson for the Thai Prime Minister’s Office.

Following the conclusion of the trilateral talks, the leaders convened a press conference. President Marcos, in his role as the ASEAN chair, set the stage for the conference, followed by Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia and then Prime Minister Anutin of Thailand. Prime Minister Anutin expressed gratitude to President Marcos for his initiative in calling this crucial meeting. He highlighted that his discussions with the Cambodian leader were not only candid but also aimed at paving the way for future cooperation.

The dialogue served as a pivotal moment for both Thailand and Cambodia to solidify their commitment to maintaining open channels for dialogue and ensuring regional peace. Prime Minister Anutin emphasized the deep-rooted connections between the neighboring countries, which extend across various dimensions. He underscored the detrimental impact of conflict, noting how it leads to losses and suffering for all parties involved, thereby stressing the importance of peace.

With a focus on reconciliation, Prime Minister Anutin called for a renewed partnership between Thailand and Cambodia, advocating for a fresh chapter in their bilateral relationship. He insisted that this new phase would require genuine sincerity, mutual goodwill, and a collective resolve to overcome existing challenges. By looking forward together, both nations can aspire to build a more stable and prosperous future.
