Vietnam and Malaysia are actively seeking to enhance their defence cooperation as part of efforts to strengthen their bilateral relationship and contribute to regional stability. In Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, engaged in discussions with Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, expressing appreciation for the ambassador’s efforts in fostering improved collaboration between the two countries.
During the talks, General Giang underscored the progress made in defence relations, highlighting the regularity of military exchanges, policy discussions, and training cooperation. He also noted the effective coordination that both nations have achieved at international and multilateral events. This ongoing collaboration reflects a shared commitment to enhancing security and stability in the region.
The Vietnamese defence minister emphasized the importance of continuing to implement existing agreements and called for stronger engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. Such efforts are seen as crucial to building a robust and mutually beneficial defence partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia.
Extending an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies, General Giang encouraged their participation in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, which is set to be held in Hanoi. This event represents an opportunity for both nations to further explore defence cooperation and technology exchanges.
Ambassador Tan Yang Thai, in turn, expressed gratitude to Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support during his tenure. He conveyed optimism that the defence ties between Vietnam and Malaysia would continue to flourish, contributing to peace and prosperity across the region.
